In fact, the word derives from the Greek euphonia which means &#8220;harmonic sound&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If, on the other hand, the following vowel is different, the euphonious D is not added.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ieri io <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">e<\/span> Andrea siamo andati a mangiare la pizza.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>I cittadini sono chiamati <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">a<\/span> eleggere il nuovo presidente.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Warning<\/strong>: there are some exceptions to the rule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Esistono in italiano alcune espressioni nelle quali si usano <em>ed<\/em> e <em>ad <\/em>nonostante siano seguita da una vocale diversa: <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">ad <\/span>esempio; tu\/lui\/lei <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">ed<\/span> io; fino <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">ad<\/span> ora; <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">ad<\/span> eccezione; dare <span style=\"color: #cc0000;\">ad<\/span> intendere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Another exception is represented by those words where the initial vowel is followed by the consonants d and t.
