Informal letters in Italian
Informal letters are sent to family, friends and people who we know quite well.
Place and date | Cagliari, 20 dicembre 2007
Recipient | Caro Stefano,

P.S. | Ho fatto un tatuaggio sulla spalla! |
So we can see that an informal letter has the following structure:
- The place where the letter was written, in the top left-hand corner, with the date below.
- At the beginning of the letter, on the left, we can say “Caro/a“, “Carissimo/a” or “Ciao” + the name of the recipient.
Examples: Caro Marco; Ciao Valentina!; Carissima Maria.
- The introduction which states the point of the letter.
-
The body of the letter which includes the subject matter.
-
The conclusion of the letter which includes the closing greeting.
Examples: A presto! / Aspetto tue notizie
Un abbraccio / Bacioni
-
The signature, which says who the letter is from and should be at the end of the letter, on the right.
-
If we have forgotten something we can add P.S. which goes after the signature.
