Qualche + singular or plural?
The indefinite adjective qualche is ALWAYS followed by a noun in the singular.
Indefinite adjectives are used to indicate an indefinite quantity and agree in gender and number with the noun they refer to.
Qualche means “a number of” and requires the noun to be singular, even when it refers to more than one thing.
Quando vado a fare la spesa, compro sempre qualche caramella.
Qualche volta vado a camminare al mattino.
Luigi è partito per trascorrere qualche giorno in montagna.
The plural is used instead with the indefinite adjectives alcuni and alcune.
The indefinite adjectives alcuni and alcune have the same meaning as some but are always followed by the noun in the plural.
Alcune volte non ti sopporto!
Alcuni miei amici ti hanno vista ieri al bar con Marco.
Alcuni is used with masculine plural nouns, while alcune is used with feminine plural nouns.
There is also the singular form in Italian: alcuno and alcuna.
Non ho alcuna voglia di andare a scuola oggi.
Non ha fatto alcuno sforzo per superare l’esame.
Warning: the indefinite adjectives alcuno and alcuna are used only in negative sentences. In positive sentences, always use qualche.
