Unit 3 – Talking about free time

1) Listen to the following dialogue:

TEMPO LIBERO (Talking about free time)

Giorgia: Veronica, cosa fai nel tempo libero?
Veronica: Io amo leggere e disegnare.
Giorgia: Anche io leggo molti libri, ma preferisco fare sport. Manuela, a te cosa piace fare nel tempo libero?
Manuela: Io preferisco guardare un film con le amiche o cucinare.

2) Adverbs of frequency.

To refer to the frequency of an action, we can use an adverb of frequency. We can use adverbs of frequency when we talk about how we spend our free time:

Leggo molto spesso. (I read very often.)
Faccio sport ogni tanto. (I do sport from time to time.)
Raramente cucino. (I rarely cook.)

3) Look at the first conjugation (-are verbs) in the present tense:

GIOCARE (to play) Io gioco Tu giochi Lui/Lei gioca Noi giochiamo Voi giocate Loro giocano

LAVORARE (to work) Io lavoro Tu lavori Lui/Lei lavora Noi lavoriamo Voi lavorate Loro lavorano

STUDIARE (to study) Io studio Tu studi Lui/Lei studia Noi studiamo Voi studiate Loro studiano

4) Look at the definite articles we use for the following nouns:

i libri (the books) – il tempo libero (the free time)
lo sport (the sport) – le amiche (the (girl)friends)
