1) Listen to the following dialogue:

LA PRINCIPESSA DI NAVARRA

Alice: Abbandonò la Spagna e giunse in Sardegna rapidamente. Quando ebbe realizzato di aver ormai lasciato la patria si rattristò?
Laura: Che bella questa storia, chi è la protagonista?
Alice: La principessa di Navarra: dopo che la principessa fu arrivata in Sardegna, sposa di un nobile sardo, eresse la chiesetta di Santa Maria Navarrese in Ogliastra, come voto, per essere sopravvissuta ad una terribile tempesta, mentre compiva la traversata.

2) Observe the conjugation of verbs to the trapassato remoto and the main uses of this verbal mode.

Il trapassato remoto indicates a past action prior to that carried out by the passato remoto (remote past).

to form the  Trapassato Remoto we use:

passato remoto of the auxiliaries 
essere o avere
+
 past participle of the chosen verb  

examples:

Dopo che ebbi pulito, uscii e tornai alle 4 del mattino a casa.

Dopo che la scuola fu costruita tutti i ragazzi del quartiere decisero di continuare gli studi.

When the Trapassato Remoto is made with the verb essere, It is necessary to agree the participle in general and number with the subject.

Trapassato Remoto the verbs essere(to be) and avere (to have).

3) Uses:

Observe: if with the passato remotoyou indicate a past tense and now concluded, with the trapassato remoto ndicates a time to the past, whose action is prior to that of the remote past.
